Impossible to Fail Framework with Rob Stein

In this episode of the Short Term Show, host Avery chats with Rob Stein, a successful real estate agent and former middle school teacher. Rob shares his journey from education to entrepreneurship, his love for teaching, and how he transitioned into real estate, where he’s now mentoring others and building a thriving career in Austin, Texas.

Avery: Hey guys, welcome back to the Short Term Show. Today we have Rob Stein, and Rob has been very successful in a lot of different industries. He’s currently a top-five real estate agent, also a professional bodybuilder, and he’s a very passionate educator. I think we’re gonna have a really interesting show for you guys today. So without further ado, Rob, how’s it going?

Rob: It’s going great! I’m honored to be here. Thanks so much for having me today.

Avery: Thanks so much for coming on.

Rob: Absolutely, yeah. So why don’t you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Rob: Um, you know, I used to be a middle school teacher for about 10 years, went to college, got my Master’s in education. Quickly realized I did not want to teach other people’s kids for the rest of my life, but I knew I loved to teach. I love to teach people that want to learn. Over time, I built my first business, which was actually in the music composition and publication space. Over the course of almost 10 years, through a lot of grit and tenacity and real hard work, I built that up to bring in about a quarter million dollars a year in revenue. I quit my teaching job, and at that point, I started getting involved in real estate.

Avery: Wow, that’s quite a transition.

Rob: Yeah, I started as an investor with my dad, who’s been in the industry for about 40 years, built a fantastic portfolio for himself. I helped manage some backend stuff, then moved across the country with my wife from New Jersey to Austin, Texas. We got our licenses, developed a fantastic career as solo agents, and built a great team in Austin.

Avery: That’s amazing. So, teaching was always part of your journey?

Rob: Absolutely. My path was always to teach. I believe we find our purpose by serving the person we used to be. I used to be that agent who was ready to go, saying, “Just tell me what to do!” And I’ve had some really incredible teachers and coaches. I’ve been fortunate to have a great career, build an incredible team in Austin, and now have the opportunity to teach other agents how to do the same thing.

Avery: So, you lived in Austin?

Rob: Yeah, I went to UT, lived there for six years, and missed how it used to be. It was a kind of hippie town back then.

Avery: What made you decide to transition out of teaching?

Rob: Great question. Money was always tight growing up. We had a great family—dynamic and super loving—but money was tight. So, having enough money to not worry about it was important to me. I’m not chasing Ferraris, but I never wanted to worry about paying bills. I knew I wanted my wife to stay home and raise our kids, and that’s exactly what she’s doing right now.
