Jen: Valley, so this place was built in 2002, and it did not look like a cabin inside. We actually added all of the wood planking that you see; it was all all white walls. We had a really nice fireplace, but we replaced the mantel too. Um, and we love it. It’s so big and open; it fits a lot of people in the living room. And then this dining room is—I love it because you’ve got the forest views. It’s just so beautiful. I feel like you’re sort of sitting outside when you’re having dinner.

Avery: Did you do anything to this kitchen, or did it come this way?

Jen: No, we did. So, it was dark and felt really small. It had all these upper cabinets; we removed all of them and we just threw a shelf up there. And, um, it was great actually because there was still plenty of storage, still plenty of places to put food. Um, but we also kind of made it a design moment, and we styled the shelving. And then we still made it, um, functional. Yeah, and then we got a couple new appliances as well. I did not have a dishwasher; we knew we had that. Yeah. All right, let’s go. So, it’s split into two floors. So, on this floor, we have the master, another bedroom, and then two bathrooms. So, this is the master. This is where I lay my head when I come visit, and it’s not huge, but it’s really comfortable and really cozy. You’ve got plenty of space, still lots of good closet space if you need it. And then we have an en suite bathroom that we ended up only doing a little bit of work to. The bathrooms overall, we kept them pretty much the same, but we replaced the flooring and fixtures. Yeah, and, um, kind of modernized the fixtures and stuff, but everything else pretty much stayed the same because they were in pretty good shape.

Avery: Very cute. And I think there’s a common misconception out there that cabins have to be all tongue and groove walls. I love that this is just the tongue and groove ceiling because it does feel a lot lighter and brighter and more modern. It doesn’t feel like you’re inside of a pine box with all the wood walls.

Jen:and it was a way we knew we could stand out because every cabin here sort of looked like that. You know, we wanted light and bright and modern, but we still wanted the cabin feel, so we strategically put tongue and groove in areas and left the white walls in other areas. So, it worked out great. Yeah, I love it.
