Stop Trading Time for Money with Russ Morgan and Joe Mure

In this episode, Avery welcomes Russ Morgan and Joey Mure from Wealth Without Wall Street. Joe shares his journey from climbing the corporate ladder to seeking financial freedom, which led him to passive income through real estate investing. They dive into their successful ventures, including short-term rentals, and how they’ve helped others achieve the same financial independence.

Avery: Good morning, short-term shoppers! Welcome back to the show. Today we have a really exciting set of guests. I’ve been on their podcast before, and I’m very excited to have them here. We have Russ Morgan and Joey Mure from Wealth Without Wall Street. How’s it going, guys?

Joe: Ah, we’re doing great, Avery. Thanks for having us. Yeah, it’s great to finally be on.

Avery: We interviewed you guys a couple of years ago, and it’s been awesome to see all the cool stuff you’re doing. A lot of our listeners are also listeners of yours as well, so it’s really exciting for us.

Joe: Awesome! I’m really excited for our listeners if they haven’t heard your show before to hear what you guys have to say. So, let’s get going. You guys want to introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about yourselves, whoever wants to go first?

Joe: Sure! I’ll start. I basically made Russ who he is, you know. Let’s just be honest, without me, we don’t have Wealth Without Wall Street. Without Wall Street, we don’t have a story to tell. I was that guy on the hamster wheel of success. I was climbing the corporate ladder and started to see lots of income. I equated that with success; I equated that with financial freedom.

Avery: But what happened?

Joe: The opposite actually happened. The more my income increased, the more I realized my time was getting sucked away, and I wasn’t getting time to spend with the people that mattered most, like my family. You know you guys sell a lot of properties down in the Gulf Shores area, right? I distinctly remember being on vacation at the beach with my family, telling my five daughters and wife, “You guys go down to the beach; I’ll be right behind you. I just have to take this one more call.” Two hours later, I’m walking down to the beach, and they’re walking back, looking at me with disgust.

Avery: Wow.

Joe: Yeah, I missed being with them. Even though I was physically there, I wasn’t present with them. Financially, I needed freedom. I didn’t need more income, and that’s where Russ came in. We became friends, and he started unraveling the concepts in this book called “Be Your Own Banker,” which changed my life and set me on the path to passive income.

Avery: That’s incredible. How long ago was this?

Joe: Well, it’s been about eight or nine years. Russ and I met at a point when I was still a typical financial planner in the Wall Street world, helping people with retirement and financial planning.

Avery: So, this was right after the market crash?

Joe: Yeah, I had just come back from a conference in 2009, right after the market had crashed. Russ and I were both standing on what felt like quicksand, looking for the next opportunity. I introduced him to the idea of passive income, and we started figuring it out together.

Avery: Amazing! And fast forward to today?

Joe: Well, today, we’ve built multiple passive income streams. Over the last five years, we’ve explored different activities and businesses. One of our biggest focuses now is short-term rentals.

Avery: Awesome! Let’s talk about your short-term rentals first, then we can dive into everything else. What do you have going on with that?
